Book Printing

Book printing on demand is a cost effective way to print copies of a new book. In traditional methods of printing, when a particular book is printed, several copies of the book are printed at one go. This may reduce the total costs of printing many copies as compared to printing fewer copies but the overall costs are actually higher.

Scope For Future Modifications

This is because when many copies of a book are printed there is no guarantee that all the copies will be sold out. As a result those copies that are not sold turn out to be a waste of money as soon they become outdated and have to be discarded. On the other hand book printing on demand is a better option as only that many copies of a particular book are printed as required at a particular time.

Once a new book has been written, published and well advertised, its demand gradually increases. This can be better achieved by printing on demand as this system makes the book available to the readers in lesser time, about ten days, as only a few copies are printed. On the other hand, traditional printing takes about 20 weeks to complete all the printing work after which there is no surety that all the copies will be sold out. Book printing on demand also gives more room for flexibility. For instance, once the book has been made available to readers, based on their reaction, the author can make certain modifications in the book. For instance, he can edit certain portions or make suitable changes in the cover design or layout of the book to make it more attractive and saleable. Such changes can be incorporated during the printing of further copies which is not possible if all the copies are printed in bulk.

Best Choice For New Writers

Book printing as per demand is especially useful when it comes to printing text books. This is because such books need to be revised and edited from time to time with suggestions from professors and teachers so as to include the latest information and data for students.  In such situations traditional printing practices cause a huge waste of money as once the copies have been printed it is not possible to make any revisions in them. Such copies have to be discarded as there is no longer any demand for them due to the absence of latest information. So though it may cost less to print copies of a book in bulk it is actually not a cost effective method when all the aspects are considered.

Especially in the case of new writers book printing is a good option as the author can get a few copies of his first book printed for his friends and acquaintances without approaching any publisher. If the book is well accepted by the readers and gains in popularity the author can order the printing of more copies as and when there is a demand for it.

Whether in the case of making copies of an old classic or bringing out a new book in paperback, book printing on demand is the best choice for all writers and publishers.
