DVD Rental

The success of DVD rental market depends on the success of a movie in a theater. Some movies are directly released to DVD. Earlier, the release of the movies was done in three stages. First, it was released in theater, followed by rental and retail. There was usually a gap of a period of two to three months when the picture was made available to be rented and when it could be bought by the customer. The video was, in fact, available for the shops who rented it further and for the enthusiastic persons who wanted to have a copy of the movie as soon as possible. This concept started to change with the release of movie on DVD. The copyright law covers CD renting. The owner of the copyright at times gives warning notices on pack of products to prevent infringement of copyright. The consumer right is broader in some cases in the United States Of America and Europe than mentioned in these warnings.

A consumer has to open an account in a shop for DVD rental. He has to provide information of bill such as the number of credit card. The owner of the shop generally charges a late fee for late returning of the items which may increase with each passing day. A few shops have introduced new policies in which after a certain period of time the item is considered as being sold. They do not charge any late fee but ask for the standard price of the item after reducing the rent of the DVD. Some shops renting movie videos have a kiosk or vending machine to give out and collect the rent.

Online rental of DVD has become very popular nowadays. This service allows a person to rent a movie online. They are delivered through mail. The interaction amid the company which rents DVD and the renter occurs through the website of the company.

The companies follow a mode of operation in which the consumer after joining the service makes a list of the movies they desire to watch. The movies are sent to the customer by mail. The customer after watching the movie sends it back to the company. A number of rental companies allow the customers to keep the movies for a long period. But only a limited number is rented at a time. A disc is given only after the previous disc is returned. The companies may have plans according to which only a limited number of films can be rented every month. DVD rental companies offer five kinds of membership plans such as unlimited, limited, package, individual rentals, peer-to-peer trading, and season and series rental. The membership fee is generally charged monthly, and it includes the postage fees too.
