Video Production
If you've missed the screening of a movie you've been dying to watch and you can't find it in the DVD store as well, then the Internet might be the best place to search for it. With recent developments and advances, you can now find and download any movie or video you desire, almost as soon as it is released to the public. The focus is on giving you immediate, free and easy access to any information or visual, irrespective of which part of the earth you are in. Video production and streaming is now no longer the domain of a select few, but is open to everyone interested and possessing a computer and a camera.
With the Internet becoming an important source of information and a tool for its dissemination, there is a new breed of reporters developing. These are none other than lay people who are living the stories that form breaking news on all the major television channels. Armed with amateur cameras and basic movie production knowledge, they film these events and then upload them onto the numerous video hosting websites. The rest of the world including television channels access these and spread the word, thus completing the circle of dissemination.
There are a number of advantages and disadvantages to this form of video production. While it does allow for stories that make history to be filmed as they occur, these aren't always captured very clearly or skillfully. The credibility, and experience of a professional news reporter should be considered very valuable, especially their ability to convey a hard hitting message within a few seconds. Professional reporters are also trained to focus their eyes on the key points of a story so that they are able to relate these concisely and precisely to the public.
However the work of professional reporters does have some amount of artifice and often channels screen these videos keeping in mind the political and social risks involved. Thus the public isn't always sure if it is getting the whole story. However when a lay person is involved in the video production, there is to some extent a greater deal of honesty. Though this might come from the fact that they are non-professionals, it still is effective in giving a behind-the-scenes look at what is happening across the world. And since most of the democratic governments freely allow their citizens to exercise their freedom of expression, the audience at large gets access to a wider range of opinions and experiences.
This gives people a greater sense of involvement in the world around them and also a sense of responsibility towards preserving democracy and freedom. At the same time, it enhances the bond between Internet users across the world even if they haven't seen or spoken to each other yet. While this can also be misused to spread rumors and create panic during times of uncertainty, it has largely shown to be a very effective device in garnering support for the marginalized and the needy.
However, the Internet community is very different from the regular TV watcher as that computers are not yet devices you would find in every home. Therefore this community would tend to be from the higher income group and having some kind of education. These informed and connected individuals who make video production contributions to the Internet thus would be only a small percentage of the actual global population. Still this has become a very important form of communication and information generation. And with the Internet becoming a more common phenomenon across the globe, future generations might turn to it for news and information in increasing numbers.
